Local Roofing Company in Tulsa- Spring Maintenance Tips

Winter has come and gone, which means we can enjoy some sunny and warm weather. Although the sunshine and warm weather is a breath of fresh air, springtime is coupled with some downsides of home maintenance. As your local roofing company in Tulsa, here are some springtime tips for the home.

Although there are downsides to springtime maintenance, it’s best to get them fixed for the remaining rainy and high wind season.

Your Roofing System

The most important element to inspect during the springtime are your roof shingles. During the winter, your home was rough housed with winter weather such as snow or hail. The winter weather can also cause buckling, cracking or missing granules that need replaced. By not having these replaced, come summertime, your roof can become more damaged from the hot weather and sun beating down on it. Other items within your roofing system such as flashing, vents, and chimneys should also be examined by your local roofing company in Tulsa. Not sure if you need a repair or a replacement, we’ll help you out!

Gutters

Gutters should be the next item on the list to examine. Your gutters could have experienced some damage from winter. You will want to see if your gutters have been broken, torn, or loose because no one wants a leaky gutter during spring. Having improper drainage can lead to water within your home and basement. Roofscapes can resolve this by making sure your downspouts and gutters are clear and drain away from the foundation of your home.

Siding & Exteriors

Your home exterior is very crucial to maintain and repair when an issue is discovered. For spring, it’s best to look your home over and have a professional look at your exteriors such as your siding and chimney for any problems that could have occurred during the winter. Don’t worry about fear of heights because our roofing and exterior professionals can do it for you!

Springtime is a crucial time to get your home prepped for the remaining seasons because of various weather conditions that can occur such as a tornado or heavy rain. It’s always better to play it safe and have your roof or gutters checked out rather than letting it go.

If you’re needing a roof repair or exterior repair, give your local roofing company in Tulsa, Roofscapes Exteriors, a call today to schedule an appointment!

Residential and Commercial Roofing- Weatherproofing Your Roof

Residential and Commercial Roofing- Weather in Oklahoma can get pretty intense. What can save your roof from leaking or tearing off? Weatherproofing.

When you’re wanting to build a longer lasting roof, weatherproofing it is the solution. What exactly goes into that process? Various layers of waterproof elements, peel-and-stick underlayment, and other coatings is the best solution for residential and commercial roofing.

Roof Paper

One of the types of roof paper is asphalt-impregnated roof paper, which has been the conventional choice for many years. This type of roof paper is considered “tar paper”. The material is inexpensive and easy to install, but can take a couple of turns if not installed properly.

Although this is the choice for conventional roofing, it can have some underlying issues such as curling and moisture seeping into the home. This happens when the winds get very strong and the rain gets past that extra layer of protection.

Maximum Protection

For maximum protection, the peel-and-stick underlayment, instead of felt paper, is the best solution. This roofing material with proper installation will provide years of protection against winds and rainy conditions.

This method of peel-and-stick can be used on the entire roofing system and surface for maximum protection on residential and commercial roofing systems.

The benefits of peel-and-stick roofing protection are:

  • Self-adhesive application that doesn’t require nails. Nails gives the roof more of a chance to allow water into the home.
  • It provides flexibility with installation that allows it to get around hips, valleys, and ridges on the roof.
  • Unlike the felt paper mechanism, the peel-and-stick underlayment doesn’t tear easily. This material helps reduce the chances of ripping or breakage during the building process, and is most reliable in severe weather conditions.
  • Built with a nonskid surface to help prevent falls and jobsite accidents.

As for residential and commercial roofing, various roofing systems are used on either one. Some roofing systems cater more towards residential or commercial roofing, but both can accommodate types of metal roofing, flat roofing systems, and even TPO roofing.

With each roofing system, the peel-and-stick application helps prevent leakage and moisture into the home during and after the building process. Making it easier for the installers by providing a nonskid grip creates the perfect environment.

If you’re looking into new construction for your residential or commercial roofing system, Roofscapes can assist by providing the best protection and weatherproofing system.

Caution: Ice Dams

An ice dam is a ridge of ice that can build up and form at the edge of your roof. When snow builds up on your roof, the snow underneath will start to melt from the heat your house is creating. This meltwater will then run down to the eaves, and because eaves tend to be the coldest point on the roof, it freezes. Once this happens, meltwater will continue to run down the roof, and the ice will continue to grow due to the initial ice that froze in the eave of the roof. As the meltwater continues to drip with nowhere to go, a water backup will occur.

Standing water and your roof are never a happy mix. If you see this happening contact us right away for a free inspection.
